The ruins of the GDR
I havnt posted anything in awhile because I have been in Europe for the last few weeks but have taken some photos in that time. On this rare sunny day I ventured out with a fellow German railfan who I had met in Peru to visit some of the diesel lines in former East Germany. We got very lucky and got two trains powered by the Soviet built 232 class "Ludmilla" diesels, easily the coolest locomotives still in regular service on DB. Here a loaded coal train departs Könnern after running around, the coal is destined for the power plant at a local sugar mill. Like in the US old cool power brings out the railfans and there was a big crowd that showed up to photograph the train.
