Details of the sgraffito decorations

The ‘House at the Minute’ (Dům U Minuty) is located on the Old Town Square in Prague. It was built as a late Gothic building in the first half of the 15th century. It is notable for its Renaissance sgraffito decorations, which were created in two phases: before 1600 and before 1615. The house served as a pharmacy, known as a ‘minute pharmacy’ because it sold tobacco. The name has remained with the house. Franz Kafka lived with his parents in this house from 1889 to 1896, and all his sisters were born here.
