Fjallsárlón, is another proglacial lake formed by the melting of the Fjallsjökull ice tongue and the small river Breiðá, which comes from the proglacial lake of Breiðárlón a few kilometers further north-east. The latter descends from the Öræfajökull volcanic caldera in the extreme south of Vatnajökull, where Iceland's highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur, is located.
