Fractured blocks of ice

Fjallsárlón, is another proglacial lake formed by the melting of the Fjallsjökull ice tongue and the small river Breiðá, which comes from the proglacial lake of Breiðárlón a few kilometers further north-east. The latter descends from the Öræfajökull volcanic caldera in the extreme south of Vatnajökull, where Iceland's highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur, is located.
