The Sorting Hat

Well that's what it reminds me of, when viewed from the right angle anyway.

We spent a while beetling up and down the road to the immediate west of Kirkjufell, trying to find a reflection across the shallow inlet in front of it. In the event we had to turn around when we arrived at the end of the road at what appeared to be a prison. With nowhere to pull up we abandoned the campervan at the gate near the main road and headed towards the water, almost immediately under attack from an unimpressed Arctic Tern who was clearly defending a nearby nest.

We quickly moved on to the car park by the waterfall to reach this classic view and found ourselves in the company of a handful of photographers taking more or less exactly the same shot as us. We're nothing if not predictable, but I suppose when you arrive somewhere for the first time, you want to take if for yourself don't you? It's a fantastic sight after all. Conditions weren't great during most of our adventure, and this was the first overnight stop of the road trip. There was at least a bit of cloud and so I went for a long exposure to try and catch some movement. I've seen some spectacular images from here. Sadly this isn't one of them, but it evokes those feelings of the beginning of what was a very memorable adventure.
