Glen Etive

The first afternoon of the recent adventure found us driving along Glen Etive. I was at the wheel and asked my colleagues to tell me to stop whenever they saw anything worth shooting, to which i received the answer "if we did that we'd be stopping every 50 yards."

The single track road here follows the River Etive down to the loch of the same name for 7 miles or so, in wonderfully remote part of the Scottish Highlands. For much of its course here it swirls and rushes through narrow miniature gorges and produces delightful contrasts.

At this point the light that had made our morning on Beinn a Chrulaiste so successful had deserted us, but a polarising filter accompanied by a 10 stop filter were ideal to bring out the movement of the water. We were only alongside the River Etive for an hour or two, but it easily deserves an entire weekend at least.

I only came here for the first time last summer, but something tells me I'll be returning to this part of Scotland over and over again in the coming years.
