Airbus A350-1041 F-WLXV Airbus Industrie (MSN 65, Third A350-1000 Prototype) | Hamburg Finkenwerder XFW/EDHI

The third prototype A350-1000 (MSN 65) performing a Go-Around while landing in Hamburg Finkenwerder XFW/EDHI after a cabin flight test. The Go-Around was no emergency, just two ships were on the flight path on the river Elbe and the aircraft, which has to cross the river to land at XFW, has to climb and try once again. The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 high-bypass turbofan engines are spooling up as the pilots slammed the throttles forward and are making quite some smoke. This sight would be expected from a Boeing 707, but not from a space-age carbon fibre 350 :) Joking aside, the smoke lasted only a second.

Differences over the A350-900 include:

- longer fuselage (from 66.8m to 73.78m)

- more passenger capacity (from 325 to 366 for typical layout)

- increased MTOW (from 280t to 308t)

- more powerful Rolls-Royce Trent engines (XWB-97 with 97.000 lbf compared to XWB-84 with 84.000 lbf)

- three axle main gear bogie with six wheels compared to two axles and four wheels

- slightly increased wing area (cca 4%)

- vortex generators on both inboard and outboard engine cowling sides to maintain take-off and landing performance
