Sikorsky CH-53GS (S-65) 85+07 Luftwaffe | Tag der Bundeswehr Hohn 2016
Slamming on the brakes in a heavy helicopter: the pilot yanks back on the cyclic and the beast rears up to slow down to the hover. This CH-53GS was on its way to offload special forces troops during an impressive hostage rescue display. Tag der Bundeswehr 2016 (Day of the Armed Forces) held at Flugplatz Hohn. Note the rear gunner hanging out of the open rear loading ramp. Looks like Darth Vader or and imperial storm trooper, but is much friendlier :). He gives precious indications to the pilot regarding height above ground and groundspeed (drift speed). This is vital, as the pilot cannot see the ground during this flare, apart from parts of the horizon in his side windows. Also notice the heat streaming from the engines.
