Rosenwald Memorial Peace Park, May 2014

May 3, 2014 (Brevard, NC): Hosted by Bethel "A" Baptist Church, City of Brevard Planning Department, and Land of Sky Regional Council, community members met on Saturday, May 3 for "Down By The Creek," a block party with activities from Zumba and skateboarding to river cleanup and parks planning.

Volunteers spent the morning digging out and installing a new community garden, with a design donated by New Leaf Garden Market. Dozens of children played on every part of the playground, including skate ramps built and loaned by Circle Factory and Sk8 Brevard.

Staff from the City of Brevard joined the efforts, and the city's new recycling bins were on display and in full use, and the river cleanup helped to restore Norton Creek to a state not seen for decades.

Attendees enjoyed lunch provided by Bethel "A" Baptist Church, owner of the Silversteen Playground property.

Maps provided attendees an opportunity to share input and ideas for the nearby park lands being considered as part of the ongoing the Rosenwald Small Area Plan for the City of Brevard. More information will be forthcoming as those plans develop further.
