I have observed a black kite hunting technique. When farmers turn the mowed grass to dry before ensiling it, they expose mouses, shingles, snakes, etc. The cattle egret locate them and they catch and it is at that moment when the black kite enters into action. From a nearby branch he sees the whole sequence and before the little egret can prepare the prey to swallow it, the black kite intimidates it in aerial flight to release the prey. With great skill snatches the prey, as it has happened with this snake. The cattle egrets also defend themselves and many times when catching a prey of good size, they escape in flight towards quieter places to be able to eat it without fear.
He observado una técnica de caza del milano negro. Cuando los ganaderos voltean la hierba segada para que se seque antes de ensilarla, ponen al descubierto micromamíferos, culebrillas, enánagos, etc. Las garcillas buelleras los localizan y atrapan y es en ese instante cuando el milano negro entra en acción. Desde una rama cercana ve toda la secuencia y antes de que la garcilla pueda preparar la presa para tragarla, el milano negro la intimida en vuelo aéreo para que suelte la presa. Con gran habilidad le arrebata la presa, tal y como ha sucedido con este enánago. Las garcillas también se defienden y muchas veces al atrapar una presa de buen tamaño, escapan en vuelo hacia lugares más tranquilos para poder comerla sin miedo.
