British Rail 4SUB electric unit 4732 Selsdon

Southern Electric Group/LCGB "Seaside Sub" railtour 26 February 1983. The (in)famous gas lighting at Selsdon can be seen on the down platform as the tour stops in the up platform. This would be switched on in the autumn and turned off in the spring. With only a peak service there was no need for lighting outside these times. 4732 is seen on the Sanderstead to Tattenham Corner (via Nunhead and Pouparts Junction) leg of the railtour. SR-design 4SUB (class 405) 4732 was new in 1951 It had gained this green livery with yellow ends in August 1982.
