iSchool at Kasisi Basic School - Chongwe, Zambia
Member of Parliament for Chipata Central Constituency Honourable RP Mtolo, with two grade one pupils from Kasisi Basic school listening to their lesson on the ZEduPad educational tablet.
A total of seven Members of Parliament from the "Committee on Education, Science & Technology" visited two iSchool pilot schools on Thursday, July 17, 2014 to interact with the children, observe how the ZEduPad educational tablets are being used in schools and gain a practical perspective on the application of the iSchool system, its adaptability and the inherent value it offers for schools that are using it.
iSchool is a complete blended eLearning solution that covers the entire Zambian primary school curriculum. It provides detailed lesson plans for teachers (some 5,000 in total) guiding them towards interactive enquiry-based learning. For students, there are thousands of fun, colourful, inetractive, multi-media lessons, available in English and for early grades in 8 local languages (Bemba, Tonga, Luvale, Lunda, Kaonde, Lusaka Nyanja, Nyanja and Lozi).
iSchool uses a low-cost, high-quality, low-power called the ZEduPad tablet which is pre-loaded with all the iSchool learning content and requires no internet connection to access lessons. It can be run off solar power thereby making it possible for schools in the deep rural areas of Zambia and Africa to use it for their learning.
Our prescriptive method of teaching will ensure that teachers, even untrained teachers, can raise their students to international levels of learning.
The detailed lesson plans and ideas for every lesson, make class and syllabus management easier for all teachers, no matter their qualification and level of experience, and also encourages the teacher and learners to be able to use things from their surroundings to plan for and engage in the learning process.
Ultimately, our goal is not only to teach a child but to instill a love of learning that will stay with a child as they grow and take their place in life. Developing or cultivating a passion in children is important because children who develop a love of learning at an early age continue the process throughout their lives and are generally more capable, more adept and more successful than those who don't.
