Pacific Coastlands.
A field of pumpkins grows on the fertile marine terrace near Pigeon Point. Originally called La Punta De La Ballena (Whale Point), its name was later changed to commemorate the wreck of the American clipper ship Carrier Pigeon in 1853. The magnificent lighthouse has guided travelers between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay since1872.
