Integrity And Honor
During The War of 1812, the British blockage of Long Island Sound nearly crippled the livelihood of those dependent upon trade. Despite this, when a young British sailor was killed during a skirmish in Stonington Harbor, the townspeople buried the sailor with full military honors.
Days later, the British attacked the town in what would be known as The Battle of Stonington. The British attacked with four warships containing 160 cannon and 1,200+ men, including the rocket ship Terror. They were repelled by a total of 26 men with three cannon.
