Beast Boy - 2.5 - Out of Control

We arrive at the crime scene within a matter of minutes, thanks to Tara's slick manuevering through the city. Though, she gets rather reckless with her flying at times, almost colliding into different signs. Though don't tell her I said that. There were also instances of the rock we're on being dropping suddenly, as if her powers weren't working for a few seconds, leaving me with a worried expression on my face. I looked over at Tara, and she was just laughing at me. Yep, she most certainly was messing with me.

We float above the dimly lit street lamp, as we look into the apartment through the window. No one's inside, at least currently. Tara flies us down to the apartment's balcony, landing seconds later. Tara tries opening the door, but unfortunately it's locked.

"Guess we're doing this the hard way then." She mutters, her eyes glowing yellow.

"Woah woah! Just wait a second alright? We can't just break the door open."

"Gar, right now you're wanted for murder, and we'll be violating a crime scene. A broken door is the least of your worries." She replies bluntly.

"You're right, I am. However, there's still rules to follow. Don't really feel like explaining this to the cops as well. Also, I don't think we need to break the door down. Look over here. " I say, pointing to a hole in the wall on the right side of the door. Just big enough for a rat to enter.

"Alright, go do your thing I guess." She says with a sigh, as I shift into a snake, and slither my way through the hole. Guessing Jacob Mullin may have had a rat problem. Also, it's a good thing this hole actually keeps going. I got slightly worried it would suddenly stop about halfway in. About half a minute or so later, I'm on the other side of the balcony door, and so I shift back to human form, and unlock it.

"See? Was that so hard?" I tease as Tara enters. She just gives me a quick glare, rolling her eyes, before we continue on through the apartment.

"So is there anything in particular you're looking for?"

"Just any clues that could lead us to our killer. I'm no detective, though I did have a guest stint on a popular crime drama once. Not like that'll help here though.. But maybe the killer was clumsy and left something behind? Just a thought though. Oh, and try not to touch anything." I suggest.

We reach the living room, the couch stained with blood, and blood splattered against the walls, with crime scene tape still at the front entrance to the apartment. Tara takes

Looking around, there's nothing really noteworthy. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, the police have probably already done their rounds of the apartment, taking any and all evidence of the crime. I notice a picture frame on a table in the entryway with a picture inside. I go towards it, and grab the picture by the back of its frame. I hear Tara step into a different room. Anyways, the picture is of Jacob Mullin and his family. Him with his wife, daughter, and son, all looking so happy. The son looks to be about 9 or 10, the age I lost my parents, and the daughter, a couple of years younger. I know how much they must be hurting right now. And they think that I did it. That's what hurts me even more. But I'll prove to them, and everyone else, that I didn't do this.

Beside the picture, is a postcard from Stone Lake, Manitoba. Outlined in a very Christmas like theme.

Wishing you all the best this Holiday season.

Love Mom and Dad

A little bit outdated, considering its May now, but I guess he liked holding on to his post cards. I hear a loud thud, and as I turn around, I see two police officers collapse to the ground. Behind them, is Tara, her eyes glowing yellow. The glow from her eyes fades, as she looks with shock at what just happened.

"Tara.. What did you do?" I ask, worried about the answer.

"They were in one of the kids rooms.. They saw me, and I just sort of panicked, and knocked them down. I swear I didn't mean to.. I lost control okay?" She replies, recalling how the event transpired.

"They're alive, right?"

"I think so..." She replies, uncertain.

"Tara!! You can't just lose control like that!" I snap.

" Seriously? I already told you I didn't mean to. I haven't had these powers all my life, like you have, Beast Boy . I came out of a fucking pod, with no idea what was going on. You should know better than anyone that it takes longer than just a few months to get a handle on your powers.. You can't tell me it was all rainbows and unicorns when you first learned about your powers." She snaps back.

"No, it wasn't." I admit, just nodding my head. I walk over to the unconscious officers, and feel for their pulses. Still alive, thank goodness. I give a sigh of relief, before Tara speaks up once more.

"Right. So don't get on my case for not being perfect with my powers. I'm doing the best I can, alright?" She responds, her tone lowering in volume.

"I'm sorry if you felt I was putting pressure on you to be perfect. I'm definitely not. Especially since I've made my fair share of mistakes recently.. You know you can talk to me about this sort of thing. You didn't have to keep it all bottled up."

"It's fine. Sorry for snapping, it's just frustrating some times. Anyways, we should probably get going, before any of his friends show up." It's then that the front door opens, to reveal a girl with long black hair, dressed in jeans and a t shirt, with a strange-looking belt. Something looking straight out of a sci-fi movie. This girl isn't Mullin's wife, or his daughter. Too old to be his daughter, but too young to be his wife. Who is she?

"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" I ask.

"Oh no.. It's you.. The Beast, that killed mister Mullin. You've come back to finish me off! Leaving no witnesses! Help!!! Somebody save me! She shrieks.

"You're the witness? I promise you, it wasn't me!!! If you just wait, and talk to me, and Terra here.. We can clear everything up, including whatever it is that you think you saw." But the girl just responds by running away.

Tara cocks an eyebrow at me calling her Terra.

"What? It's what you told me to call you when we first met. That and I can't just keep going around calling you your real name when we're doing heroics. Anyways, we don't have time for this discussion right now. She's the only lead we've got." I say, before turning into a cheetah, and dashing out the front door, underneath the crime scene tape. Tara follows behind me, ducking underneath the tape. Upon turning the corner, we see the girl tap something on her belt, and a black portal appears. The girl goes through it, and we follow behind, barely passing through it before it dissipates.

Suddenly, we appear right in the middle of times square, which just leaves me even more confused.

Who is this girl, and why are we in New York?
