Spider-Man Volume 4, Issue 8: Life of the Party
"Peter!!!" Teresa cheers, downing yet another cup, as I approach her and her friends.
"You should probably slow down."
"Awh, don't be like that Peter.. I know I shouldn't say this, since I'm your big sister and all, but you should loosen up a little. You don't need to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders all the time. Oh, I forgot to introduce you to my friends.. You already know Henry Jackson." To which he waves, quickly looking around, making sure Flash isn't around.
"Hey Peter." Is all he says, before she speaks up again.
"Then we have Mark Allan, and Carlie Cooper. Finally we have the bestest friend a girl can ask for, Mary Jane Watson!" Ah yes, how could I forget about Miss Wonderful Personality? Considering how many times aunt May and her aunt Anna tried to set us up and all. She seems nice and all, but unfortunately, we're just too different. She's popular, and well I'm --- not.. I can't see a world where that would ever work out. I'd find a way to screw it up, just like I have with Lana. She doesn't even want to talk to me anymore.. Just my luck.
"It's uh nice to meet you all again. Thanks for being friends with my sister. She's been through a lot." I say, slightly stuttering my words throughout, almost losing my train of thought.
"It's nice to put a face to the name! She talks about you a lot. She's a goofball, but in the best way--. " Carlie says with a smile.
"All out of love, little brother!" Teresa interrupts, slightly slurring her speech.
"Hey MJ, come dance with me!" A guy shouts, as he tries to grab MJ by the wrist. I don't know his name, but he tends to hang around Flash, so that's already a bad sign.
"Back off Skip, she's not interested." Henry says, glaring at 'Skip', placing his hand on the clearly drunk guy's shoulder. Thankfully it's enough for him to back off. Intimidation roll is a success and a raise!
"Whatever man.. Her loss." He scoffs, going back to the dance floor. We go back to talking, pretending like nothing happened. I could tell though, that MJ was slightly annoyed that Henry spoke for her. But I guess that's really none of my business. Maybe this is possible.. Balancing my double life. Even though this party scene isn't for me, it is nice to get out once in a while and just have fun. Though, I really wish Lana wasn't mad at me still.
POV Change
"Fatality!" The new challenger yells, cheering as my character dies in a brutal fashion. I brought this on myself.. I can't stop myself from looking over my shoulder, at Peter, as he talks to his sister and her friends. Giving my controller up to Harley, I move over, sitting down beside Michelle.
"Still not over Parker, huh?" Michelle teases.
"Wha-Why would you think that?" I ask, somewhat lost in thought.
"Really Lana? Girl, you can't stop looking at the guy. Even though he totally ghosted you, and left, without saying why. Besides, you're blushing."
"I can't help it okay? I know he was gone, and I'm trying my hardest to hate him, but I just can't. I care about him so much. Why can't everything to go back to the way it was? It hurts more not talking to him. He was there for me, when I came to Midtown. He could've judged me like everyone else did, but he didn't. He took the time to truly get to know me. Damnit, I'm getting emotional!" I muse, wiping my eyes, making sure to get rid of the tear before it decides to rear its ugly head.
"Sounds like you've made up your mind then. I still think he doesn't deserve you after what he did, but that doesn't really matter right now. Go talk to him already!! Oh, actually, wait. You gotta see this!" She says, pointing over to Flash Thompson, a mischievous grin forming on her face, as he grabs one of the plastic cups that's sitting on the kitchen table.
"What did you do?"
"Knocking the All American football star down a peg. Let's just say, he won't be the life of the party for much longer... Laxatives and alcohol, the perfect combination." She answers with a laugh, as Flash makes a bee line towards the bathroom upon drinking.
"You didn't!"
"Oh but I did. It was only a matter of time before karma bit him in the ass. Figured I'd speed the process along. Give him a taste of his own medicine you know?" Michelle can't stop herself from smiling, clearly proud of herself.
"Serves him right.. Anyways, I should probably get going." I say, my voice trailing off.
"Of course. Go get your man!" She cheers as I get up off the couch, and start walking over to Peter. It takes me a minute or two to weave through the drunken crowd, before reaching him. He smiles, but stays silent, unsure of what to do.
"Hey Peter.. We need to talk."

"Why didn't we kill the Spider? Could've killed him before the cops showed!" Morris Bench grunts. That's his problem.. He's too easily angered, and has no patience. But his gift, being able to manipulate water, is extraordinary. So putting up with his attitude is a small price to pay.
Ohnn: "As he told you before Morris, he was almost out of time.. I'm doing the best I can, but the serum is still flawed." He replies, while working on everyone's gear.
Morris: "You know more than you're letting on, oh fearless leader! If we knew all the details, this would be way easier!"
"I've told you everything you need to know.. If you've got a problem with that, you can always leave. But I wouldn't do that if I were you. Not very smart to go after the wall crawler alone.. Many have tried that, and failed. I'd give you maybe a few days before he catches you and throws you back into the Raft." I say calmly, not letting his anger phase me.
Morris: "What about you Berkhart? I know you want him dead too!"
Berkhart: "We all do. But some things take time. Besides, we need to set the stage, before we squash this spider."
Morris: "You and your dramatic bullshit. Not everything's meant to be some performance!" I can't help but roll my eyes. He doesn't know when to shut up.
"Ohnn, what's the progress on the suit upgrades?"
Ohnn: "Almost complete sir. Should take maybe a few hours, max."
"That's good to hear. We'll need it for what lies ahead. Soon, the Spider-Man will take his last breath and the Sinister Six will reign supreme."
