DC Universe: Flash - 1.10 - In the Face of Evil
After we talk some more, I say my goodbyes, as unfortunately it's still a school night. Upon arriving home, I head upstairs to my room, looking over the chapter on metahuman biology in my textbook, before finishing the worksheet that's due tomorrow. After that's all done, I get ready to go to sleep. No matter how hard I try though, all I can think about is Inertia, and that he still has Wally somewhere, doing truly awful things to him. It hurts even more, knowing that Eobard Thawne may be the only one with the answers that everyone needs. I can't help but fidget, adjusting every few seconds in my bed, until finally, hours later, I close my eyes and go to sleep.
-------------------------------
Next Morning
"Wake up!" I hear both Iris and Barry shout, one after the other.
"Okay okay! Just one more minute please! Jeez.." I groan, rubbing my eyes, closing my eyes for a few more seconds before getting up once and for all. After getting dressed, I head downstairs. Grabbing the milk jug from the fridge, I'm about to start chugging it when Barry grabs it out of my hands.
"C'mon Bart, you know the rules.."
"Right.. Don't drink it from the jug! Finee." I sigh, grabbing a cup from the nearby cabinet, and pouring milk into it, only to down drink it milliseconds later. Perks of being a speedster!
"And??"
"Do things at regular speed." I mumble, going back to a regular, 21st century, human pace. It isn't long before I finish up my morning routine. There's about 45 minutes before school starts, which gives me plenty of time. Especially when I have to make a pit stop along the way..

Speedster Detention Facility
Here we are! The place where all the reverse, and negative flashes go! Along with all the other big bad speedsters! I'm pretty sure there's some super scientific name to go along with this place, but for the sake of simplicity, I call it the Speedster Detention Facility. With cells powered by the Still Force, it's unlikely that any prisoner's will be escaping anytime soon. I'm lead through the hallways by Harrison Wells, the mind behind this facility. After going through several hallways, I find myself at my destination. He leaves once I enter the room, with the door closing behind me.
There he is.. Eobard Thawne, just sitting in his cell. Not doing anything menacing, or doing something evil. Just sitting there, calmly drinking water . He notices me there, and waves.
"It's been a while since I've had a visitor. And for it to be a Flash, no less! But you're not Barry, as I've heard he's retired from being the Scarlet Speedster of Central City. Passed it on to the carefree Wally West. But, you're a little too short to be Wally. So that leaves us with the impulsive one, Bart Allen. You know, you're risking a lot, being here, in this time." He taunts, already trying to get a reaction out of me. Which, unfortunately, is working.
"That's rich, coming from you Thawne. You risk just as much as I do by being here! And yet, you came back to this century to meet him anyway! That's not why I'm here though."
"Then why are you here, Impulse? Must be something quite tragic, to come to me for help."
"Inertia. Thaddeus Thawne II.. Who is he? " I ask, raising my voice in frustration, slamming my fist down on the metallic bars of the cell wall.
"You know, yelling at me won't get you anywhere.."
"What do you want Thawne?!"
"Oh, many things. Freedom from this prison, being right at the top of that list."
"You know there's no way I'd ever let that happen."
"Really? Not even for your precious uncle Wally?"
"How-?"
"It's quite obvious. You, playing Flash.. Coming to me for help. Why else would you go to such lengths? It's clear that you need me, more than I need you. While we're at it, could you get me some coffee? I have to say that the coffee in this time is much better than the shit they call coffee from my time. Synthetic, as you well know.. Doesn't quite taste the same.. So what do you say? You give me freedom, and I can give you your family back. That's what you've wanted this whole time, right? To have Uncle Wally back with his wife.. So that you don't have to play pretend anymore. Central City would get its hero back! Really, it's a small price to pay." He says with a smug smile.
"Yeah, of course I want Wally back! That's the only reason why I'm here. But to let you out, and risk millions of lives, just on the off-chance you might know where Wally is? You really think I'm dumb enough to even consider that? You know what, don't answer that. I don't want to know."
"You Allens, always so self-righteous, thinking that you know all! Even if the timeline's completely in shambles, it doesn't matter, so long as you have each other back, am I right? All in the name of family." He mocks.
"That's no-"
"Really? You're going to tell me that's not true. Need I remind you of the time Barry went back to save his mother, or the time he prevented Iris' death? Two big events, that drastically altered the future of this world. So sure, believe that to your core if you really want to. But nine times out of ten, you and your family will choose each other over the people of this world. Why should this time be any different? Besides, I can make you faster. Fast enough to catch up to this Inertia . After all, not even death could catch me."
"Yeah, I'm good.. Really don't need your help with getting faster, as I'm already quite fast. Should've known this would be a complete bust." I say before walking out of the room upon the door opening. As much as I don't want to admit it, Thawne is right about something. I'm not fast enough to beat Inertia. But sometimes, you don't need to be faster, just smarter. At least, that's what Max would've said here to cheer me up. Unfortunately I can't just rely on his pep talks anymore. With little to no leads, I'm left to wonder where to go from here? What would they do, if put in this situation? The only place now that could have answers is back home. It's highly unlikely, as last time I was there, Inertia didn't exist.. But really, I wasn't searching for him at the time. Just a kid, stuck in VR simulations, learning anything and everything there is to know about my family's legacy. Maybe it's time I go back.
