Captain Solar Volume 1, Issue #19: Architect's Rule Part Five: The Fated Path

"We should probably get a move on, before we lose him."

"Yeah yeah. Just a sec." Edge replies, as he pulls a syringe out of his belt.

"Why'd it have to be now of all times?" I can barely hear him mutter, as he takes off some of his combat gear, injecting himself with whatever is in that syringe. Well, that's a conflict of interest... At least if that's what I think it is.

"Hopefully you can catch up, cause I can't really wait longer." I say, lifting myself off the rooftop, flying behind the flaming horse, but making sure I'm not following him too closely that he'll notice me.

It takes a minute before I see Edge running alongside us, on the rooftops, teleporting every once in a while. At the speed the associate is going, we're out of Red Light Row district rather quickly, and out of Lowtown minutes later. The horse finally stops, and the man dismounts, the horse disappearing soon after.

Snyder's Mental Institution? I thought this place was abandoned. He opens the door, and I wait a minute before entering after him. I hear the door close behind me, as I make my way down the creaky stairwell. The lights flicker, cause why not right? Almost like it's a prerequisite for being a supervillain. I almost yell when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around, sure enough, it's just Edge. He's having trouble containing his laughter, as we navigate through the hallways, looking for any sign of Architect. After checking all the rooms in this floor, we head down to the basement.

"This way." Edge whispers, motioning for me to follow him. I nod, and follow him, with a light sphere following us, acting as our light source. We come across a room, full of terminals. Also inside the room, is two men. One is the man we've been following, while the other, is dressed in a lab coat. The one dressed in a lab coat seems to have noticed us enter the room, as he turns around, to look at us.

"You told me you weren't followed! YOU IDIOT! Do you realize how much work I put into this plan, only for you to screw it all up now?" He yells to his associate.

"Sorry boss. I checked, and saw no one out of the ordinary." The armored man replies, quickly becoming fearful for his life.

"How can you miss someone dressed in bright orange?!"

"So can we assume you're "Architect?" I say, interrupting him.

"Oh, that tacky name actually stuck.. Well well, if it isn't Captain Solar, or should I say Andrew Livingston? It's unfortunate that you had to come. The fated path must be taken." And, he just outed my identity to Edge. Well, that's just great. Architect's voice is quite monotone, and nothing special. To be honest, I was expecting more.

"What are you talking about?"

"You really think I'm that gullible? It's obvious to anyone that has eyes. You don't even try to distinguish yourself... Enough of that though... Like Cimialcinnus, the celtic god of paths, there are thousands of pathways I can see. Each with their own differences, and outcomes. But there is one, the fated path, that will lead us into a new age. Cardinal City, free of corruption and its vices. The only way to achieve this, however, is the sacrifice of Lowtown. For us to live in this utopia, we must rid ourselves of the scourge and scum. You may think it's extreme, but it's what needs to be done. I will bear that burden, and be the Architect that helps to create a new Cardinal City."

"Going to blow up the city! The go to supervillain plan! Cause that never goes wrong! Not everyone's corrupt in Lowtown. There are some truly good people. You're trying to justify a massacre. I won't let you do this."

"It's already begun. You won't find them all in time. Even with your flight speed. You can't be everywhere at once." Architect says with a laugh.

"Guess it's a good thing I'm not alone then." I say with the biggest smirk on my face, as he doesn't seem to recognize Edge.

"Chariot, make sure they don't leave here alive. I won't accept another failure." Architect says, as he glares at the associate.

"Affirmative. I won't fail you again." Chariot says, as he creates a flaming lance, and shield.

"I can't believe I'm about to say this, but here it goes. Solar, Andrew, whatever your name is, go now, and find the bombs."

"What about you?" I ask, as my hands start to glow an orangish white colour.

"I'll handle things here. You can get around faster than I can, so it's the only plan that makes sense, even if I'm not a big fan of it."

"Alright, but you better win this. Otherwise, I don't think I will ever forgive myself."

"GO!" Edge yells, and with that, I take my leave. Seems like all hands on deck situation. Better get into contact with Dusk and Dawn, along with Devyn McAllister. While the latter isn't a hero, it's always possible she knows one. Hopefully I find the bombs, otherwise, a third of the population will die. No pressure Andy.. No pressure at all.
