DC Universe: Superboy/Supergirl, Issue #3: Strong Winds Blow In
Upon entering the building, a woman walks up to our teacher, Mrs. Alice, and starts talking to her. Mrs. Alice motions for us to follow her, so we do just that.
"Not as impressive as the Veritas building." Shane pipes up as he walks alongside me and Alicia.
"Wait, you haven't actually been here before? I figured with your family's status, you would've seen this place at least once." Alicia says, with her voice full of shock.
"Nah, not really. My parents have, but not me. I've still got a lot to learn! At least, that's what my dad keeps telling me. He'd probably also tell me to take this opportunity to learn of LuthorCorp's weaknesses, but honestly, I don't really care. Let's get going, as we're falling behind the class." The elevator door closes before we reach it. Now the three of us have to wait. Wonderful start already...
"Elevators. Too much demand, and not enough supply." I'm embarrassed I even said that, but whatever, can't go back on it now.
"Oh Chris, you're such a dork sometimes." Alicia laughs as we await the next car.
"Only for you Ally." I kiss her cheek, before pulling back, as the next elevator car should be coming soon.
"Okay you two lovebirds, just get a room already!" Shane looks somewhat uncomfortable with the current situation. Can't say I blame him.
The elevator arrives moments later, and Shane breathes a sigh of relief, before getting inside. I follow him inside, with Alicia getting in last. I stand beside Alicia in the corner, holding her hand. The door closes, and we stand there in silence, before the door opens once again, where we rejoin our class. As we move in close, I recognize the woman that's about to speak to us. Samantha Arias, CEO of the Leavenworth branch of LuthorCorp. Kind of surprised she's the one giving us the tour.
"It feels like just yesterday that I was standing in your shoes, in economics class. It's honestly one of the most important classes you'll ever take. Today, you'll get a glimpse of the groundbreaking technology we are developing here at LuthorCorp, along with learning about the business behind it all. First off, the most important element in regards to the economic theory, is the individual. That's right, all of you. All of the traditional rules, along with supply and demand, are all secondary. But if you want to rise above those rules, and to know when to break those rules, requires absolute dedication. It's a prerequisite for success in the business industry."
Most of our class cheers and applauds her, while I'm still skeptical.
"Thank you. Anyways, I hope you enjoy today, and learn something new. Mr. Simms here will be your official tour guide. If you have questions, feel free to ask him." She smiles and gestures towards this 'Mr. Simms', who looks at all of us with an eager smile.
"Alrighty then! Let's get this tour started! If you would just follow me."
Just as he says that, an alarm sounds, and I notice Samantha pick up a device, and places it on her ear. Me being the curious person that I am, eavesdrop on her conversation.
"What's going on? A break in? Where? Level Five? Oh no... He's back."
"Can you cover for me? Turns out there's a break in." I whisper to Alicia.
"Yeah, of course. Just be careful okay?"
"Always! I mean it's not like bullets can hurt me anyways, so I'll be fine." I smile, giving Alicia a hug, before running off, making sure no one is looking at me. As I get outside, and into an alleyway, I change into my costume. I listen for the intruder, and use their voice as a guide as I'm flying towards level 5. About a minute later, I crash through the window, to see a man dressed in high-tech armour, yelling.
"WHERE IS SHE?! WHERE'S SAMANTHA ARIAS?" It's like he's throwing a temper tantrum, except he's using wind to throw various objects across the room, scaring various lab techs that are there.
"C'nt brea- " Is all the lab tech managed to get out, as he gasps for air.
"Well obviously she's not here. How about you let him go? There's no need for things to get ugly." It's only at this point that he notices I'm here. He loses concentration, and the lab tech runs out of the room.
"Superboy?! Here, now? NO! You'll ruin everything! They deserve to pay... LuthorCorp ruined my life, and Samantha Arias is the head of the snake."
"Hey man, I get it. LuthorCorp's done some truly despicable things. But, from what I've seen so far, it seems like they are trying to turn over a new leaf." Yeah right... I even have a hard time believing that one, though I have to talk him down somehow.
"That doesn't give you the right to hurt all these innocent people."
"None of these people are innocent. Everyone's guilty of something... Even you Superboy!"
"I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I can't let you do this." I fly towards him, and punch him in the ribcage, which sends him across the room. He cushions the impact damage with his arms spread out behind him, using the air to slow himself.
"It's unfortunate you had to get involved. Would've been less painful for you." He starts sucking the air out of my lungs. Don't have much time! I concentrate on using my heat vision to knock him back, but he simply avoids it. He stops, and leans towards me.
"Looks like it's the end of the line for you kid. Sorry, nothing personal, you're just in the way." He aims his arms down at me, and unloads concentrated blasts of air into me. Let's hope this works.. I inhale as much of the incoming air blasts as I can, which is a lot, but pales in comparison to how much Clark can store. Anyways, I crash through the floor, and through the ceiling of the room below. The people in the room run away in fear when they notice us fighting. Man, taking this whirlwind of hurt better be worth it. Ooh, whirlwind. That's a good name for this guy. I crash into the ground, with Whirlwind landing gracefully.
"What's the matter Superboy? Cat got your tongue?"
It's at this moment where I exhale, aiming directly at him, while also making sure no civilians are in the line of fire. I'm sure his armour has some sort of resistance to his own wind, but I doubt it can take this much of it. Sure enough, the impact catches him off guard, as he goes crashing through various tables, and other objects in this room. Of course I didn't account for him to go crashing through the window. Just great, now I got to go and catch him. I hope Alicia and Shane are doing okay. I fly out through the window he went through, making my way towards him. Going underneath him, I catch him, and hold him with both my arms, as I direct myself back to level five. Upon landing in the room I was in before, I place Whirlwind on the ground, and take his helmet off, making sure he's unconscious. I look over towards the security cameras, before speaking.
"So yeah, bad guy is down for the count, at least for now. Anyone want to explain who he is?" Hopefully someone's actually listening, cause otherwise I'm looking like the biggest idiot right about now.
