Grgur Ninski was a Croatian bishop of Nin who introduced the Croatian language in religious services after the Great Assembly in 926, in opposition to most of the church and the Pope at that time. Though not shown in this picture, one of the toes of the statue is rubbed to a shine and said to bring luck.
