Queen Elizabeth II
Macro Mondays theme ''Queen''
This Canadian gold colored one-dollar coin is actually composed of multi-ply brass-plated steel and its diameter is 26.5 mm (roughly 1 in). It is referred in Canada as a “Loonie” (or “Huard” in French). This makes reference to the Common Loon that can be found on the obverse of the coin when it was first introduced in 1987 to replace its paper equivalent. And no, it is not spelled “Loony” which has a completely different meaning… 😊.
The reverse of the coin features the image of Queen Elizabeth II that can be seen in my picture.
