Alagna Valsesia. Italy.

The huge Pillar of the old cable lift of Punta Indren, seen from the trail to Mount Cimalegna from Bors valley (at an elevation of 2500m). The man on the left is my Dad (71 years old).

The cable lift that from Alagna Valsesia, 1150m, climbed to Punta Indren, 3260m, was ultimated in 1965, and worked until 2007. The cable lift used two intermediate stations, at 1800m and at 2400m. Those stations were impressive concrete buildings, today they might be called "eco-monsters". The last segment is still in place, with the two horrible stations and this huge pillar. This pillar has a massive stairway inside; in the 60s and in the 70s, during summer, it was possible to ski down from Punta Indren to this place, and the cable lift used to make a stop here to take the skiers back to Punta Indren.

Today Bors valley is full of magnificent free ride routes, Alagna Valsesia is known as "Free-ride paradise" and there is another cable lift, that reaches the same elevation of Punta Indren from another valley.

If you are interested, you can find a movie with original footage of the building of the cable lift on youtube.
