#76 GGO Chase Part 5 Spruce Road, Photo by Wes (2)

Great Gray Owl Chase Part 5

I have birded in many of the lower 48 states, Alaska, and some of Ontario. Various trips were made with various companions. Many times I went with my brother-in-law Ron, sometimes Sam and or Travis came along. Sam and I used to go somewhere together every spring when he was young as well, and still go to the woods and swamps as often as possible.

Beside having fine fellow-travelers, the secret to great trips for me is always in the destination, and the birds that are there. The more remote the location, the better as far as I’m concerned.

Places like Nome and Gambell Alaska, the north woods of Idaho, or the Dry Tortugas, Salton Sea, Whitefish Point, and Crazy Mountains of Montana are examples of the Boondocks where I‘m most comfortable.

Yesterday I posted some bird photos from the Sax-Zim Bog in Saint Louis County Minnesota, definitely a boondocky area. While Ron and I were up there I took a number of photos of scenery as well as birds. This photo is definitely relevant to the subject of Boondocks today.
