SURGERIES SUCK, BUT SOMETIMES THEY ARE NECESSARY.
Here we see a less than thrilled Joni recovering from her recent thumb surgery, as she is wearing an arm sling with ice inside to combat swelling in the area of the surgery. Joni is no stranger to surgery. Her first surgery was the removal of her gall bladder after an acute gall bladder attack back when she was 34 years old. That surgery was performed the old fashioned way before that type of surgery was revolutionized. Joni spent 13 days in a hospital before and after the surgery; an unheard of amount of time these days. Thank God for medical insurance!!
Subsequently, Joni has undergone a pair of hip replacements, six years apart; a surgery to remove a bone spur on her right toe, which believe it or not was the most painful to recover from. She has also had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff after a fall from a ladder and "minor surgery" to remove a huge MRSA infection on her face last year, which left her with a nasty scar which was the subject of possible plastic surgery, which was avoided through a process called microneedling. . . .and now surgery on her thumb. Fortunately, she narrowly avoided having her left leg amputated at age 12 after developing a serious case of blood poisoning after stepping on a rusty nail when doctors at an E.R. decided that another tetanus shot wasn't necessary.
With full recovery and physical therapy expected to be three months for this surgery, Joni has determined that when this is over, she will have spent nearly two years of her life recovering from her various surgeries by resting and rehabbing through physical therapy which restricted her from engaging in many of her usual activities, including work. It gets to be a real drag!. . . . But each one has restored me and allowed me to resume my normal life, so I'm grateful for having medical insurance to cover the costs of these surgeries! So many others don't and that's a tragedy, especially those who rely on medicaid which trump and musk are determined to cut.
