Bordeaux, a world heritage city.
The place de la Bourse (Place Royale) faces onto the Garonne river. It was laid out in the 1700s by Louis XV architect, Gabriel, to act as a dramatic frame for an equestrian statue of the monarch. During the French Revolution, the statue of Louis XV on horseback was dismantled and smelted down in 1792. The present fountain by Louis Visconti was erected in 1869 and is known as the three Graces. The three Graces refer to the three daughters of Zeus: Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalie.
