SeAZ-1111 Oka. Photo from Tula, Russia.
The Oka microcar was produced in 1988–1995 at the VAZ plant, in 1995–2008 at the SeAZ plant (Serpukhov, Moscow oblast) and in 1988–2005 at the ZMA plant (a division of the truck manufacturer KamAZ, in 2005 it was sold to Sollers and reoriented). In the early 2000s, it was one of the cheapest cars in the world, however, demand was never a record (buyers preferred larger cars, for small cars in Russia, limited demand). The car was gradually modernized and had many versions, including versions with manual control for the disabled peoples (the SeAZ plant produced such machines before, but these were microcars with motorcycle engines that were not marketed and were issued free of charge only to the disabled peoples). In 2006, SeAZ restyled, and the engine was replaced by Japanese, but by that time demand had already begun to fall.
