Tenerife - Showing the Flower Carpet Stencil
Many of the flower carpet designs for Corpus Christi Festival at La Orotava in Tenerife, use ornate 3-D stencils which are filled-in with colourful flower petals, leaves, pine needles etc to create geometric designs. Others like these have the shapes drawn on cardboard which has been taped to the cobbles. Some these designs demonstrate real artistry and many depict the Virgin Mary and the Baby Jesus in stunning colour. All this work for a few hours of finish before before destroyed. This reminds me of the Navajo Indians who may spend days preparing their spiritual sand-paintings after after memoridsed ceremonies that can last for several days, always obliterate their symbolism.
