Lodge St Clair of Dysart

This old building, which was once a Christian church is now a Masonic Hall and is used by Lodge St Clair of Dysart. After the great schism in the Church of Scotland which is referred to as "The Disruption', the Rev. John Thomson moved to this new Free Church in 1845. The List C building only functioned as a church for 29 years before closing in 1874. In 1890 one of the St Clair, Earl's of Rosslyn (a high mason) presented the old church to the Order of Freemasons and there is a carved sign over one of the door lintels commemorating this event. You can clearly see its church-like lines and windows. Until recently the other he listed building next to it was the highly respected local restaurant, the Old Rectory Inn, but the business folded after a change of ownership and is up for sale at a mere £350,000. A snip at that price I say.
