The MV Solitaire the Worlds Large Pipe-laying Barge Anchored off Dysart

The world's largest pipe-laying barge is currently moored off Dysart Beach and has had lots of people in Dysart, Kirkcaldy and West and East Weymss saying "what the blue blithering blazes is that"? The boat is 1 1/2 to 2 times the length of the boats that are normally anchored here. It is 397 metres long, 300 metres of boat and a further 97 metres of pipe-laying stinger. The only larger boat I can recall seeing off Dysart was the aircraft-carrier HMS Ark Royal, although the QEII passed on its final voyage when we were away on vacation. I believe that is is sheltering here against a poor weather forecast, before heading north to the UK offshore oilfields. Alternatively it could be heading south to the UK offshore gasfields?

Update on 15th August. It was actually heading south to carry-out a pipe-laying contract in the Mediterreanean. It was accompanied at anchor by a marginally smaller sister ship. The larger ship has now gone but the almost identical sister ship is still here.
