Linlithgow Palace - Man at Arms

A man at arms in the medieval village during Historic Scotland's jousting event in Linlithgow. Linlithgow Palace is great to visit at the best of times, with its rich architecture and its adjoining loch with kayaks, sailboats, horse-riders, swans, great crested grebes etc, but when it hosts the jousting and medieval encampment it is unmissable Despite the rain we have had during the past few weeks the event hadn't been cancelled and the doughty knights were riding. The Saturday had been quite wet, but we had good weather on the Sunday, with the rain keeping off until we were driving homewards.

Quite apart from the jousters of 'The Knights of Old England', there were re-enactors from 'The Carrick 800' and the 'The Historic Saltire Society' and probably other groups. I apologise for not knowing who was who (whom?) but the proliferation of groups reminds me of one of my favourite films, 'The life of Brian' , where we had 'The People's Front of Judea', 'The Judean People's Front', 'The Judean Popular People's Front', 'The Campaign for a Free Galilee' and 'The Popular Front of Judea'. The members of both excellent living history groups can choose their nearest equivalent?
