Sun Pillar Below, Flying Geese Above

A sun pillar consists of a vertical column of light passing through the sun and its colour is the same as the source. when the sun is high in the sky it will be white and when low, orange-red. Sun-pillars arise through reflection from ice-crystals and this was taken on one of the Costa del Dysart's rare snowy mornings. Also in shot are the Dysart Seabeams, 28 to 30 feet high oak plillars symbolising the masts of the sailing clippers that used to throng adjacent Dysart Harbour. If your eye follows the sun pillar upwards you should spot a skein of geese flying high above the Firth of Forth.
