The Old Harbour at Puerto de la Cruz

Unlike some of the fairly manufactured resorts on the slightly sunnier west coast of Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz (literal translation - Port of the Cross) on the NNE coast of the beautiful island, has a long history. There is always something interesting going on in the old harbour where seafood is constantly being landed (but at a leisurely pace). The town is also in easy reach of the rest of the island. Puerto de la Cruz has a beautiful old centre and doesn't just comprise of resort hotels and shops and restaurants. We loved the town and our hotel the El Tope was great, even though it had something like 200 steps up from the road to the harbour. All that exercise helpeed to walk off the superb choice of buffet food that some of the friendliest staff that we have met in any hotel, used to serve up for us.
