Kirkcaldy Doors Open Day - View East from the Top of St Serfs Tower, Dysart

St Serf's Tower will be open to the public on Sunday 13th September 2009. You can climb the 100 plus steps and take in the 360 degree panorama including Dysart Harbour, the grounds of Dysart House (Carmelite Monastery), old Dysart and this year to the west, the offshore barge(s) laying the new water outflow pipe out to sea. The tower is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other attractions open include the John MacDouall Stuart museum (birthplace of the first man to cross Australia's deserts) and the Harbourmaster's House with its interactive displays on Fife and its seafaring history (and a nice cafe/restaurant). Come along and you may see me on duty on top of the tower. Oh and the weather forecast for Sunday appears to be sunshine, so good photos may be possible!

NRG asked what the posts were? Dysart Seabeams is public art symbolising the masts of the old schooner ships that used to land cargoes at the harbour and the colours of the sea and sky throughout the year! They are thick oak beams, between 28 ft to 32 ft tall. Members of the public were given disposable cameras in order to photograph the sea and sky at Dysart throughout one year. The paint colours were then based on the shades on the developed films!
