Skye Trip - Entering Glencoe - The Glen of Sorrows

On our way to the Isle of Skye we passed through Glencoe, with its majestic mountains. It is one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland on a nice summer'day like this. However, when it has a more wintery aspect, it can look foreboding and unwelcoming, echoing as it does the long-ago winter-time massacre of the helpless Macdonald families, by hated government redcoat troops led by Campbell clan rivals. This earned the glen the name, the Glen of Sorrows! Nowadays it is a much happier place, beloved of hillwalkers and climbers, but the majestic Buchaille Etive Mhor and Buchaille Etive Beg can still claim the lives of the unwary. The mountains still need to be treated with a great deal of respect!
