Dysartian
Thanks for Deliverance From the Black Death
The building called the 'Castle of the Guns' was completed in 1585, just after the Black Death (Bubonic Plague) killed 400 of Dysart's 750 inhabitants (information courtesy of The Dysart Trust) . This plaque was removed from the building, which sadly was demolished in the 1950's and the plaque was re-located on the front of a new three-story block of flats on the cliff-top. The ancient stone-mason has carved 'Give Thankis (thanks) to the Lord' (for deliverance from the plague). Dysart being a busy seaport, was highly susceptible to diseases brought in by Dutch, Scandinavian and British sailors.
