On a recent visit to Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire we were able to see their most recent exhibition that is subtly spread across the whole house. The Exhibition features the life of Arbella Stuart who was the great granddaughter of Margaret Tudor, cousin to James V1 of Scotland and niece of Mary Queen of Scots. Arbella had a claim to the English throne through her father, Charles Stuart.

She was brought up at Hardwick Hall by her grandmother, Bess of Hardwick, who made sure that she grew up knowing her royal roots. Unfortunately this upbringing meant she was a virtual prisoner at the Hall and a later rebellion in her life, when she tried to flee to France, ended with her incarceration in the Tower of London and her eventual death there.
