Workspace in Blender

It is quite amazing that a software like Blender is free. It is incredibly powerful - you can make movies with it provided your computer can handle it (mine can't - at least not yet, it is tempting to buy a now one).

In the "viewport" window on top you can see the city I made in 3D. It consists of a number of cubes that were extended or resized to get different shapes.

Then you can apply materials to each object or to a group of objects.

The bottom half of the window is the Shader Editor that shows how I made the material for the buildings with windows emitting light and glossy structures.

You can use the built in "brick texture" node for this purpose, set the offset to zero, and play around with the other values.

Then add a glossy shader and an emitter shader so that the windows emit light.

Finally, you can add some lights (areas or suns or emitters on objects) to create the light effect in different colours.

The moon is projected on a plane behind the city.
