The first wooden church and the village were burned by Polish-Lithuanian troops during the Time of Troubles (1608-1612). The present brick Ascension Church was built in 1805.
During the Great Patriotic War, the German army held Russian prisoners of war in the church.
The church was closed and repurposed in 1959. The church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1993. Restoration started in 1993.
