Mantella ebenaui
A mantella frog from Northern Madagascar's Ankarana Special Reserve. These are small terrestrial frogs that are quite nicely colored and often collected for the pet trade. I'm not quite sure on the ID for this one - M. ebenaui is a group of frogs, similar to M. bestsileo, that may or may not contain several different species and may hybridize with M. viridis in the wild.
These frogs are apparently relatively common during the rainy summer season but I found them quite difficult to find during the dry season. After a day and a half of searching without any luck, I decided to inspect an area surrounding one of the simple bathroom facilities near the entrance to the park. I found three of them hiding in a small crawlspace that had retained some moisture.
