Foldable Scores for Thinking extrapolates on the concept of a performance document. For each book in this series of 18, a compositional model has been prescribed. As the volume of drawings accumulate, shifts and adjustments made in accomplishing the task alter the form over time. Here duration brings fluctuations in the number, scale and stability of the prescribed marks and the overall shape of the composition on the page. Bound together in a book, the drawings perform sequentially: 87 departures in rhythmic counterpoint to the initial compositional idea. As drawings accumulate, so to does the potential for a denaturing of pattern. Each page enacts a cut - one local resolution that affords an indeterminacy of permutation. Each volume of drawings doubles as a 20-second animation.
