Exploring the tomb
Over the years as a young boy of Lenfald, Thomas had acquired a bit of a hobby. It came out of his endless desperation for money after his village was sacked and burned. I can't say it was an honorable thing. But because they had been dead for so long who would have cared right? Well you may have guess it, but Thomas’ favorite pass time was grave robbing. Though not of men, no that went against his high honor of the lenfald ancestors that ruled long ago. No, there are points in lenfald a history that have slipped through the pages of history. Ones that aren't recorded in the great record halls of the Library of Durrough. One of the such events in time is when the Giants ruled all the way from the Dragon Scale Mountains to the Kings waters of eastern Lenfald. From what Thomas can tell, the Dragon Scale Mountains had been a sacred place for this giant race of men. This is where they buried there elders and nobles. And the intricacy of their tombs is just glorious. Their well structured caverns built to last thousands of years, their catacombs, and let us not forget the grand prize: the sarcophagus of the Giant himself and his many treasures. All these things are what gave Thomas an uncontrollable desire to search for these tombs! With all the unknown riches and secrets that they held.. And that's where our story begins.
Thomas had brought more men than usual on this adventure. He had brought his most trusted friends, Sam and Keane. But he also brought several men at arms to ensure their safety on there journey home. For that rode home was dangerous, bandits waited around each crevice and rock to jump and slit your belly and take very thing you have, but this tomb was dangerous in another way. It was rumored to be the burial site of one the Kings of these Giants. And so be cursed with death to anyone who disturbs the King. But Thomas cared not for superstitions. He had brought men and they were safe that's when Sam called out,
“Thomas! I believe I've found it!”
“Great!” Thomas shouted as he ran over to Sam, “Do you think this is it Sam?”
“I do” Sam said with an excited voice. So Thomas called over some of his men at arms to start digging and it wasn't long before they struck rock. So they used hammers now to smash through the thin rock that lye between them and the tomb. And then it cracked. And they saw the darkness below. Thomas quickly struck a torch and grabbed a rope.
“You men stay here” gesturing to his men at arms, “me, Sam, and Keane are going to have a look around” Thomas said with an eager grin. Then he lowered himself down and waited for the others to follow.
They were lowered into a hall of catacombs, all lined with the bare dry bones of the dead. Keane noticed a staircase to their right and so they followed it down to a large iron gate. Thomas drew his sword and smashed the lock with the hilt of his sword and pushed the gate open. Their was a skeleton at his feet. With sword stabbed through his back, “how do you think this happened?” Thomas asked his friends.
Sam being the more superstitious of the three replied, “ maybe it's the curse?”
Shocked, Thomas asked, “ you believe that lie? Curses like that are only a way to keep men like you and me away from these great riches.”
“You asked” ,Sam replied.
They then walked over to the to the sarcophagus in the center of the room. It was about ten feet long and beautifully designed. They heaved the lid off and then they saw him. A king. Nine feet tall and wearing a breastplate laced with gold. Thomas looked over to his left to see the Kings treasures, the gold, the weapons, and his belonging. Thomas took up an iron shield painted green. He liked it. He would spare this one the time at the market. And instead give new life in battle. Then he saw the Giant’s sword. It was large. But Thomas was a strong man. And he lifted it with ease. Lastly he saw his battle ax, with its bronze blade unoxidized by the elements. He would take these three things for his himself. The rest would either be sold of locked in a vault. Thomas then looked at his friends who were digging through the treasure also.
“You may take as much as I, and consider it a gift, an example of the value I have for our friendship.” Thomas then ordered his men outside to lowered down the crates and he started loading the treasure and weapons in. He had done well this time. And when Keane and Sam were being lifted back out of the tomb Thomas heard something down the hall. It sounded like an animal rustling around in the bones or something. Then he saw two cold eyes and a narrow face starring at him and Thomas, being scared of little, quickly climbed the rope up to where his companions were loading the crates onto a cart.
“Thomas.. You alright?” Sam asked, “you look a little shaken”.
Thomas quickly replied, “I'm fine, lets get a move on and I want two men guarding our rear at all times.”
They then made their way out of the mountains and down to road that would take them home. But Thomas was had not felt fear like that in a long time. Not since his parents were killed and he was left alone.
“It's alright”, Thomas though to himself but it was not alright, Thomas had seen a ghost of his past. One he never hoped he see again…
Here's my latest moc! Sorry for such a long story, but I felt it necessary to give some background for Thomas. Hope you like it!
C&C always welcome!
