At the Waterhole
Three giraffes bow together in synchronized choreography for their morning drink at the waterhole next to our lodge in Hwange Park, Zimbabwe. Because of their long necks, they must spread their front legs widely and bend deeply in order to drink. Usually one or two would be up watching for danger while the others drank, but in this moment, all three bent together, providing me with one of my favorite pictures from the trip.
A Yellow Hornbill is perched in the tree behind them surveying the scene, a large termite mound can be seen in the background, and yes, you can definitely see that many elephants have been here as well.
Taken at 1200 mm focal length, 1/250, ISO 125, hand-held.
See the picture below in the comments for a giraffe reflected in another pond in Botswana.
I just returned home to the smoke after a few days in Colorado visiting the newest grandbaby. She was gorgeous, of course! The fire's now 70% contained, so we're beginning to feel a bit safer. The mornings are still very smoky. Thanks again to everyone for your concerns, and thanks to the 5,000 firefighters battling the huge blaze.
