Nice Ear-Do!
This female African Buffalo posed for her portrait sporting some of the prettiest ear hair in the bush. It's easy to tell the females from the males by the hair over their foreheads. The males, in contrast, have the prominent bony bossing connecting their horns, as can be seen in the picture below in comments. The thick bony prominence over the male's head can even sometimes prevent penetration by a rifle bullet.
The African Buffalo can be up to 11 feet long and weigh up to 2000 pounds. It is one of the African “big five," and can be a very dangerous animal, as it gores and kills over 200 people every year.
