Welcome to Lisa Durden’s #WomensHistoryMonthMoment: In 1967, Katherine Switzer became the first woman to officially enter the #BostonMarathon. It had been an all-male event for 70 years. The ignorant thinking at that time was if a woman did anything arduous, we were gonna get big legs, grow hair on our chest, turn into a man and our uterus would fall out. LAUGHABLE!! Katherine decided to crash the Marathon by signing the entry form KV Switzer, so they couldn’t tell by her name that was a woman. Then during the run, some abusive race director by the name of #JockSimple had the #BrassBalls to grab her and scream for her to, “get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers!!” Although that #MOTHERCLUCKER man-handled #KatherineSwitzer by trying to rip her numbers off, her husband who was running as well, slammed his punk a_s to the ground and she chose to continue the race because she wanted to send the message that women were capable of running without their uteruses falling out. Switzer finished the marathon in 4 hours 20 minutes. Her bravery changed women’s sports and in 1972, five years after Katherine Switzers’s historic run, women were officially allowed to compete in the #BostonMarathon. She also became an activist for female runners successful campaigned to include the women’s marathon in the #OlympicGames. #ClapForThat!!
