Welcome to #LisaDurden’s #BlackHistoryMonthMoment: Zelda Barbour Wynn Valdes born June 28, 1905, opened her own boutique, “#ChezZelda,” on Broadway in New York City in 1948; making her the first African-American to own a store on the coveted street. She sold her dresses to celebrity clients #GladysKnight, #JosephineBaker, #MaeWest, #EllaFitzgerald, #DorothyDandridge, #EarthaKitt, #MarionAnderson. Valdes also created the infamous #PlayboyBunny costume in the 1950s. #ClapForThat! #ZeldaWynnValdes passed away September 26, 2001.
