This used to be my older brother's room. It was gray and filled with neatly stacked shoeboxes of baseball cards and shelves full of shining trophies. Now it looks like this. In fact, now the entire house looks like this. I can't clean as fast as you can make a mess. Especially when the baby doesn't nap and refuses to let me put him down. I must be holding him on my hip at all times and my body is beginning to curve that way permanently. You break everything you touch. Everything. You rip books to shreds, put stickers on everything, eat crayons, and unfold clothes just for the sake of unfolding them. I'm tired. I'm too old for this. When I look at myself in the mirror I see an old lady with a sagging, curved spine and a torn, half-digested Hello Kitty sticker stuck to her forehead. I used to be pretty. This house used to be pretty. Now we are old, humiliated with stickers, and we are falling apart.
