Bermuda - Royal Naval Dockyards

The Royal Naval Dockyard is located at the far western end of Bermuda. Construction for the massive fortress began in 1809.

It was the principal base of the Royal Navy in the Western Atlantic between American independence and the Cold War.

The dockyards now are the main attraction at the western end. Museums, shops and restaurants are located in the sprawling complex.

The dockyards are just a short walk from the cruise pier. In fact, there is a free tram that goes from the ship and circles through the dockyards.

This is the Clocktower Mall. It was built in 1850s as a warehouse for the British Navy. The walls are about three feet thick.

The two towers of the building are 100-foot high. One shows the real time, and the other shows the time of the high tide.

Now a shopping mall. It has about 25 stores. It's a nice place to look for Bermuda items.
