Ohio History Center - Lustron House

A 1949 Lustron house has been reconstructed inside the Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The Lustron houses were built in Columbus, Ohio, and shipped any where in the country to meet the post-war housing shortage.

They were made of porcelain steel. So you could hang a picture with a magnet. You didn't need any nails!

There were 2,498 Lustron houses built from from 1948 to 1950. About 1500 of them are still standing.

This is the Lustron house #549 — a two-bedroom model.

The nice thing was that as you wandered through the house, you could make yourself at home. You could even sit on the furniture!

The living room.
