Cape Henry Lighthouses
There are two Cape Henry Lighthouses located on Cape Henry in Virginia Beach, Virginia, along the southern entrance to Chesapeake Bay.
They are on Fort Story, a military installation in Virginia Beach.
The first one, built in 1792, was the first lighthouse authorized by the U.S. government
The octangular truncated lighthouse is 90 feet tall. It is built of Aquia Creek sandstone from the same source as the White House.
It was replaced in 1881 by a cast iron and wrought iron lighthouse that is 157 feet all.
The two lighthouses are just 350 feet apart.
