Houston Skyscrapers

I worked in downtown Houston from 1983 to 1986. During the early 1980's, several skyscrapers were completed downtown. It was interesting watching as the buildings were being completed.

The tall building in the photo when completed in 1981 was the Texas Commerce Tower. It has 75 stories and is 1,002 feet tall. It is the tallest building in Houston, in Texas, and the tallest five-sided building in the world. It is now the JPMorgan Chase Tower.

In the picture, you can see a floor of floor to ceiling windows. That is the 60th floor skylobby where you change elevators to go to the upper floors. When I worked downtown, the skylobby was open to the public. Whenever we had out of town guests, we would take them to the skylobby for a fantastic view of downtown and the city.

The photo was taken in April 2010.
