BAC Lightning F.6 XR728 from 11 Squadron at RAF Valley, June 1985.
Lightning F.6 XR728 'BF' stands on the STCAAME flightline during the 11 Squadron MPC at RAF Valley, North Wales, June 1985. As part of preparations for the first flight of the day, the small open hatch with dayglo lever above the port ventral strake is for hand-pumping the hydraulic system back up to operating pressure. Not long since carrying 5 Squadron markings as AO, '728 went on to bear the initials "JS" of RAF Binbrook's final station commander before closure, John Spencer. It beat the odds and now gets regular exercise down Bruntingthorpfe's runway with the Lightning Preservation Group.
